Cathay Pacific Swiss Privilege Hong Kong
Squash Open 2006
Being rated as a "Platinum Series" tournament and also one
of the Grand Prix events in the world squash calendar, the
Cathay Pacific Swiss Privilege Hong Kong Squash Open 2006,
combining both the men's and women's tournaments in a single
event, was awarded the "M" Mark status and funding support
by the Major Sports Events Committee under the Sports Commission.
The tournament was sanctioned by the Professional Squash
Association and the Women's International Squash Players Association,
and organised by the Hong Kong Squash from 16 to 22 October
2006. The attraction of the tournament was the final rounds
being staged in a crystal-like squash court put up in the
busy shopping mall at the Plaza Hollywood. 30 top world-ranking
men and women squash players were attracted to compete in
the tournament. The champions of the Women's Open and the
Men's Open Championships were Nicol David and Amr Shabana
respectively.
