Terms of Reference

To advise the Secretary for Home Affairs on the promotion, preservation, study and development of Cantonese opera. Specifically, the COAC offers advice on the following areas: To strengthen professional training in Cantonese opera; To enhance audience building and promotion of Cantonese opera; To facilitate exchange and cooperation with Guangdong and Macao in Cantonese opera; To promote the preservation and study of Cantonese opera; To foster cooperation between the Cantonese opera sector and other related organisations (e.g. the Hong Kong Arts Development Council and the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts); and To engage various sectors, including the general public, the Cantonese opera sector, the academic sector, the media, the tourism industry, district organisations and private bodies, in the development of Cantonese opera.
