Terms of Reference

To advise the Secretary for Home Affairs on the promotion, preservation, study and development of Cantonese opera. Specifically, the COAC offers advice on the following areas:

  • To strengthen professional training in Cantonese opera;

  • To enhance audience building and promotion of Cantonese opera;

  • To facilitate exchange and cooperation with Guangdong and Macao in Cantonese opera;

  • To promote the preservation and study of Cantonese opera;

  • To foster cooperation between the Cantonese opera sector and other related organisations (e.g. the Hong Kong Arts Development Council and the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts); and

  • To engage various sectors, including the general public, the Cantonese opera sector, the academic sector, the media, the tourism industry, district organisations and private bodies, in the development of Cantonese opera.
